Wrath of the Righteous blog 1

My wife Rachel and I enjoyed literally decades of gaming. Unfortunately she lost her third fight with cancer and we have to get by without her sparking wit and gentle humor at the table. We have dealt with her death in different ways in different campaigns. In Wrath of the Righteous, her character had traveled from Tian Xia, an Asian style country in the Pathfinder world to combat the Oni that have started to escape from the Worldwound alongside the more “normal” demons. So the GM had her called home via magical means to deal with a situation only she could deal with. We have a magic box we can contact her with and pass small things back and forth.
Rachel started her blog as a way to remember what happened the session before and found she really enjoyed it. You can find it here: http://yuanmeihua.blogspot.com/ There is a bit in the middle I won’t try and recreate from memory. Sorry. If you like campaign stories, her blog is well worth the read. You’ll find writeups of our multiple campaigns From 2010 through her death in 2021.
Dawn plays Zosta, a human barbarian. Aundrue is Zero, an elf bard who has traveled extensively and spent quite some time in Tian Xia. Jiro is a human former gardener turned shaman. He keeps the headstrong warpriestess and barbarian alive. He also has the help of a family spirit manifested as a monkey. His name is Bohgong, but Jiro affectionately calls hum Uncle. We have started doing that as well, and I think he tolerates it only for Jiro’s sake!
In this campaign I play Frairuna (Runa) Rivensdottir, a half orc War Priestess of Iomedae. She has recently stumbled her way into a relationship with Zosta’s adopted big brother, a redeemed Devil. Yes, very tall, red, and has wings. He manages to dwarf the six foot five inch half orc. Will the green girl and the red guy make a relationship work in the face of the reality of fighting the incursion of the Worldwound? We’re quite literally making it up as we go along!

*******************************

Hey Asami. I’m sorry I haven’t done this before. I’ve been thinking how you always wrote your master back in your home country, and I thought maybe I’d start doing the same with you. To let you know how we’re doing. Now I’m not as good at words as you were, taking notes right after something interesting happened, so if I get confused or get something slightly wrong, please forgive me. When you’re done, pop this journal back in the box and I’ll write more when I get a chance.
To start, we’ve found Gami has a connection to the outcropping of The World Tree out in the wastes. He refers to it, with some reverence, as Father-NotFather. Fortunately or unfortunately, we’ve all kinda taken to calling it that. He can look at the tree in Jiro’s garden and see what is happening around FNF. Later we found he can travel back and forth between the two trees just by walking into it!
Rhino stopped by after Zosta asked him to come talk to a guy about seeking redemption. After that we sat together and held hands during a meeting and we shared that we had missed each other (blush). Seems like we’re taking things slow, but a part of me wants to run not walk, but maybe if we ever get to spend more time together, we’ll find a slightly faster pace. I even pulled out my sexy new dress (which Rhino didn’t even seem to notice! Grrrrrrr!). I had hoped to spend time with him in the evening, but it wasn’t to be. *sigh*
Gami came running to find us and led us back to Jiro’s garden. After a bunch of confusing back and forth, we got the impression that a group of demons were landing an attack on FNF. We found out any demons or corrupted spawn that get close to the tree are killed by it and the line not to cross is remarked by a small but growing mound of bodies.
One of the magic items Rhino gave Zosta that makes her fists become fiery had a hidden ability. They are activated usually whe Zosta says “little sister”. He gives them to Gami and tells him to go through the tree and shout “big brother”. He does and Rhino is immediately transported to where Gami is, and proceeds to trounce the assembled demons. Of course he then feels the need to immediately return to Kenebras. So much for any moonlight canoodling. I can’t seem to catch a break!
We left the next day and have done a lot of exploring of the wastes, and one day we saw what Zero saw a while back. What looks like a woman, but is actually a sentient swarm of locusts! (Were you there when Zero told us about seeing her? I can’t remember!)
She had a bunch of guys with her and she was on the opposite side of the river of lava we were trying to cross with the bridge we had found there.
We tried to parlay, but things went badly. I had cast Shield of Wings and was flying over the lava river when the buggy bitch dispelled my spell and I DROPPED INTO THE RIVER OF LAVA! Well I managed to just barely swim out and missed all of what happened next.
Apparently the Locust Lady was there having something to do with a demon summoning. It appeared, grew bigger, and then disappeared!
There were words, a guard was killed, and then bug-girl gathered her party all together, except for the slick talker Brionne who had come forward to parlay with us, and teleported them away. Drat. I wanted to have “words” with that so and so!
Anyway, we decided to offer to take Brionne with us or to let him go, and he decided to stay with us. We found a map on the dead guy, apparently their scout. It marked where we knew FNF was on the on the map with a skull, and two other places we didn’t know also with a skull, so of course we headed right for the closest skull marked in the map.
What we found was a huge underground cave. As we slowly entered and advanced, we could see people standing stock still at the edge of our light. Turns out they were obsidian statues that looked incredibly lifelike! We even recognized one as Trevor Vaenic, Sosiel’s brother. And when we tried…
        Oops getting ahead of myself!
Apparently this was the lair of the Woundwyrm we had heard rumors of. He attacked, we talked smack, he talked smack, we took lots of damage, and then Jiro cast a Flesh to Stone spell on it. At first I thought it hadn’t taken hold of the flying beast, then suddenly it stiffened and fell from the air just like the huge chunk of rock it now was. Unfortunately Zosta was underneath it when it fell!
Fortunately for her it was irregular and while pinned and crushed it could have been a lot worse if it had landed differently! Uncle burst forth from Jiro’s basket he was riding in and he was in his giant white ape form. With all of us lifting and rocking the wyrm, we finally got it shifted enough for me to pull a badly wounded Zosta out from under it. We healed her and Uncle and I broke one of the wings of the woundwyrm in case anybody tried to turn it back. Which is what we tried to do to Trevor’s statue.
Jiro cast the reverse of the spell he put on the wyrm and tried restore the statue to life. What we got was a Trevor shaped blob of meat, which jiggled and promptly fell over with a loud smack! Ugh, gross!
I had invested in a scroll of Treasure Stitching so we bundled the remaining statues and the meat-Trevor onto the cloth and I cast the spell to deal with them later.
We found the remains of several caravan carts with a bunch of stuff over by the far wall including a sword with a bloody note from Trevor to his brother. It is of a better magical quality than my usual sword, so I am using it until such time as we can return it to Sosiel.
About this time Zosta started feeling a pull to the west. We followed her lead and it led to an odd shimmering in the air. We theorized that it was some kind of magical doorway. We thought of going directly through, but we were all tired and low on magic as the wyrm had been pretty tough, so we retreated to a magical pocket space Jiro created with a spell and had a peaceful night.
We’re about to go enter the doorway. I’ll write more when I can.
I hope they’re treating you right over there. We all miss you. If they ever don’t respect you, know that we will take you back in an instant!
Love Runa
